I don’t know about you, but my skin is always at its best at the end of the summer. This is normal : between the sun that gave it a nice glow and an almost nonexistent makeup routine that allowed it to breathe, my skin is radiant and blemish free. But in September, that’s a different story… Going back to work or to school means a heavier makeup look and less time to take care of yourself (or to sleep !). As a result, the skin is often oily but dehydrated, and the imperfections are coming back.
To remedy this situation and maintain a pretty skin, you just need four simple steps, which are probably already part of your daily routine. As you may know if you read this blog, I use a lot of drugstore products for my face and I made a selection of several skincares you can discover in your local pharmacy or on the website shop-pharmacie.fr.
1 – Cleanse
It’s impossible to obtain a pretty skin without a good cleanser and/or makeup remover. In this season, I love micellar waters and cleansing gels : this is fresh, nice to use and this isn’t too rich. These two products will help the skin get rid of its excess oil and keep the blemishes away.
While I was still a student, I used to alternate between the micellar water Sébium H2O from Bioderma (which was better for my skin than the famous Créaline) and the cleansing gel Cleanance from Avène. Right now, I am using the micellar water Effaclar from la Roche-Posay to take my makeup off, followed by a soap free gel.
2 – Scrub
I think that scrubing your skin several times a week is really important and I try to do so, especially after the summer. To protect itself from the sun, the skin became a bit thicker, and if you don’t help it eliminate the dead cells quicker than usual, you might get your pores clogged… and imperfections. As a bonus, exfoliating allows you to maintain a luminous tan much longer !
Personally, I use two methods : some homemade scrubs that I create myself with natural ingredients, or a small exfoliating face brush that I use with my regular cleansing gel.
The scrub must always be applied on a perfectly clean skin. Do circular moves with your fingers on your whole face. Choose a soft scrub if you have a sensitive skin !
3 – Treat
To avoid nasty pimples or to make the ones you might already have disappear, it is important to treat your skin with an appropriate product. Be careful, this musn’t be applied all over the face, but just localy on the “problem area”. Last summer, I used the Effaclar Duo + from la Roche-Posay a lot, and I still use it this year just in case. A few people also advised me to try the Triacnéal from Avène, which is more suited for acneic skins.
You can also try some tea tree oil to treat your blemishes, this is great !
4 – Moisturise
Finally, to get a pretty skin, it’s important to moisturise it, especially if you enjoyed too much sun/pool sessions/wine during the summer. Even an oily and blemished skin needs to by hydrated. If you don’t, it will rebel and create more and more sebum… this is a vicious circle. If you’re in that case, I advise you to use a light cream. I personally love the Avène products. Don’t forget a SPF during the day, because we are still in September after all !
From time to time, you can complete your routine with a moisturising and/or nourishing face mask. You can find some great ones in your drugstore, but I also like to create my own with natural products from my kitchen. You can discover a few of my recipes here and there.
And psssst ! Try and drink a lot of water to get your daily hydratation, your skin will thank you…
With these 4 daily steps, you are most likely to maintain a pretty skin after the summer ! Do you have some essential steps or products that you like to use at this time of year ?
