DIY : A NOURISHING BODY SCRUB
Today, I’m sharing with you the steps to realise your own nourishing body scrub. The recipe is simple, made with natural ingredients which you can find in your kitchen, and you can keep this body care several weeks in an airtight container. This DIY can also be a nice personalised and cheap gift, for Christmas or as a hostess gift. Let’s discover the recipe !
To make your nourishing body scrub, you will need :
• 3 large tbsp of coconut oil
• 3 large tbsp of honey
• 3 large tbsp on sea salt
• peppermint extract
• vanilla flavour
• dried mint
• an airtight container
⇒ Mix the coconut oil, the honey and the sea salt in a bowl with a spatula. The coconut oil is solid below 24°C, but it will become warmer and more malleable while you stir. However, you can put the oil in the microwave for a few seconds beforehand, or put its containing under hot water to make it melt if you find this easier.
Coconut oil is helpful in this recipe to bind the ingredients, but it is especially great to nourish your skin. I’ve recently bought my first jar, and so far I’ve been using it for everything : as a mask on my hair, on my face as a daily skincare, as a body lotion after my shower…
Honey also has moisturising virtues, and it is also a great natural antiseptic. It will help preserve your body scrub and will soften and clear your skin.
The sea salt is there to add the abrasive effect needed in a scrub.
⇒ Once your mixture ready, add two tsp of natural peppermint extract, one tsp of vanilla flavour a one tbsp of dried mint. Mix again.
The peppermint extract and the dried mint will bring a touch of freshness and an invigorating effect to this nourishing body scrub. You can use fresh mint leaves if you are going to use this scrub within 5 days. The vanilla flavour is just there to bring a sweeter scent to the recipe.
⇒ Your body scrub is ready ! You can pour the mixture in an airtight container and keep it at hand in your bathroom. To accentuate the invigorating effect of this scrub and to keep it longer, you can also put it in your fridge. But don’t forget to use it under 3 to 5 weeks.
⇒ If you want to use it as a gift, you can decorate the container. I used masking tape and ribbons to customise mine which I intend to offer for Christmas. Of course, since Christmas is in 3 weeks, I’m going to use this scrub on myself, and I will create new ones a few days before giving them.
