MY FAVOURITE GREEN SMOOTHIE BEFORE CATCHING A FLIGHT

Green smoothie recipe to regain strength before a flight.

When you will read these lines this Tuesday evening, I will probably be on a plane between Malta and France. Well, let’s hope I will, otherwise this would mean I missed my flight, and that wouldn’t be cool…

But I won’t digress anymore and I will get to the point of today’s post : a green smoothie full of vitamins, perfect before a trip ! When I have a flight to catch, I slightly change my eating habits a few days before and I try to eat lighter. Taking a plane is already tiresome enough, no need to force our body to digest a cheese-burger with fries on top of that !

The morning before my flight, I usually have a good green smoothie to regain strength and be ready for my trip. Between the last minute packing, the ferry, the maltese buses, the stress and the flight itself, this is no luxury…

The recipe for my green smoothie
(2 big glasses) :

  • Celery
  • Arugula (or spinach leaves)
  • One Granny Smith apple
  • Two kiwis
  • One orange
  • One small banana
  • One lemon
  • Vanilla extract
  • Goji berries
  • Water and ice

1 – Wash the orange, the apple and two small stacks celery. Pour 20cl of water into your blender. Add a big handful of arugula (or spinach) and the celery with its leaves.
2 – Wash the orange, remove the zests and add them into the blender (only if it’s organic). Peel the fruit and remove the seeds, then cut it and add it to the mixture. Do the same for the two kiwis, the green apple and the small banana. Finish by adding the juice (and eventually the pulp) of a lemon. Mix everything again.
3 – Finally, add half a tsp of vanilla extract, a small handful of Goji berries and a few ice cubes before mixing one last time. Enjoy !

Thanks to this green smoothie, you will benefit from of lot of vitamins and antioxidants. The orange, the lemon and the kiwis contain a lot of vitamin C, which happens to be a powerful antioxidant and which will give you a great boost. The celery also contains vitamin C, as well as vitamins A, B and K, essential to the proper functioning of the brain and to a healthy immune system. The banana is full of potassium and magnesium and is perfect to give you energy throughout the day.
Finally, this smoothie is also full of “anti cancer” food, especially thanks to the Goji berries, the arugula and the celery. To sum up : energy, vitamins, antioxidants, and a nice boost for your immune system ! The perfect smoothie to have before traveling.
