MY 4 MAKEUP ESSENTIALS
I’m back after a long week ! My mom and my two little brothers were visiting us in Gozo and we spent our days between the beach and the pool, to fight the 38°c weather.
Now, it’s time to get back to work, and therefore I am sharing my four makeup essentials, my current favourite products that I use almost everyday !
During the summer, I rarely wear makeup because the weather is too hot, but I like to make a small effort if I go out for a drink or for a dinner at the restaurant.
However, you will notice that the “small effort” is really… small. A base to keep all my makeup from running as soon as I’m out the door, a concealer to hide my dark circles and some blemishes, a black mascara on my eyes and a touch of colour on my lips.
Let’s discover these products with a few before and after pictures !
1. The Tea Tree Pore Minimiser from The Body Shop
For my birthday in March, Gleb offered me several beauty products, including this base. Since then, I use it very often, and the tube is still half full !
I like this product that mattifies my skin and clearly helps my makeup to last longer. It’s especially efficient on my eye lids : my concealer is not going into the creases after 5 minutes anymore ! An essential makeup product for me, whether it’s to face the maltese heat, or to go out at night.
2. The Instant Anti-Age concealer from Maybelline (light shade)
I’d been reading good things about this concealer for months, and never had the chance to try it. Luckily, my local beauty store has a Maybelline corner. A few months ago, I finally bought this little product.
At first, I was a bit puzzled because the product was not coming out of the tube really well, and I was not convinced by the unpractical foam tip. But after a few tries, I’m very happy with this concealer : it’s easy to spread and it offers a nice coverage, while giving a natural look.
Now that I’ve tanned a bit, I just use this product, without foundation. However, I apply it with a wet beauty blender, because I’m still not a fan of the foam tip.
Regarding the “anti-aging” effect, I am obviously too young to notice a change. Yet, I don’t think that this product would be miraculous against this type of problem…
3. The Lash Sensational mascara from Maybelline
After almost a year of loyal service, it was time to say goodbye to my Outrageous Volume mascara from Sephora. I’ve replaced it with the Lash Sensational from Maybelline, and I’m quite happy with the change ! The before/after pictures speak for themselves : my lashes are lengthened and thickened. With the brush, I try and take all the lashes from the root, in order to leave a bit of product there, for a very subtle “eyeliner” effect !
4. The Tint Gloss Superstay 10h from Maybelline (shade 410 Forever Coral)
Another Maybelline product in this list ! I was a bit disappointed by this product, because the foam applicator broke when I first used it. Now, I have to use a lip pencil to take the product in the tube… not the most practical thing. However, this minor problem was not enough to make me hate this lipstick. On the contrary, I love it and I keep it in my purse wherever I go out.
The name is a bit misleading because the texture doesn’t feel like a lip gloss at all – I hate that – but more like a lip stain. The result is semi-matt and you can intensify the colour if you add more layers. This “gloss” can last very long without touch up and it doesn’t leave any oily feeling on the lips, two rare qualities for which I have a particular fondness.
After a quick search on the Maybelline website, it looks like I own the former version of this product. Now, the Superstay has two different steps : first, the colour, then, a long-lasting and protecting balm. If you had the chance to try the new one, I’d be curious to read your thoughts !
