MY YEAR 2014
Before I’m really starting to write this post, I would like to apologize for my absence. I’ve decided to take a little more time off in order to enjoy these last moments of 2014. Gleb’s family is russian and my brother-in-law and his girlfriend are currently spending some time at our place in Malta. Needless to say I don’t see them really often. The surprise I promised you in my last post won’t be on the blog until next week. Be patient !
However, I still wanted to come back on the blog this week to make a quick review of the year 2014, which is coming to an end. This is not something I usually do, but this is my first New Year’s Eve as a “blogger” – please note the quotation marks, I don’t like to call myself that – and it’s a pretty way to let you learn more about me and these last 12 months.
I started the year 2014 on the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands). Gleb and I flew to this destination to meet his family for the holiday festivities in late December 2013. I spent the 31st in the martian landscape of the volcano El Teide. It was my first time there, and I was delighted by the beauty of the island.
At that time, Gleb and I were still living in our first appartment, in Rennes. We were seriously thinking about leaving France, but we didn’t know where to go live instead… And what about Tenerife ?
Gleb finally found the perfect destination for us : Malta. And it’s been quite easy to convince me… We were spending our nights watching pictures, clips and videos of our future country while dreaming, under the french rain, of the sun…
This is also the month of my birthday, and we decided to go back to Tenerife for a few days in order to escape from the rain. Perfect timing, we arrived just in time for the carnival, which started only a couple hours after we landed.
One of my favourite months : our anniversary is in April.
The departure for Malta was getting closer… We decided we would live on the island of Gozo. We spent the month of May emptying our french appartment, giving away old stuff, lending our furnitures to friends, packing things… On the 27th, we flew out with Fluffy, Plioush, five suitcases and three travel bags to our new home. A perilous journey, but the cats were angels on the plane, and we finally arrived.
We were slowly starting to discover our new country, and we were won over by the wonderful weather, the nice people and the breathtaking landscapes a little more everyday.
The weather was getting really warm… But it was a real pleasure to be under the sun from morning till night and to be able to spend hours in the pool or in the sea.
On the 6th, I finally decided to launch this blog, which I had been thinking about for quite a long time !
My mum came to visit us for a few days, and I discovered with her some places of Gozo I had never been before.
We were celebrating Gleb’s birthday, and that was the occasion to receive some of our friends. We enjoyed some great nights together !
The weather was getting cooler, and the rain came back… After more than three months without seeing a drop, that was quite a surprise !
My best friend came to visit me in Malta, and I was delighted to show her my little island.
Gleb and I went looking for a new house. We didn’t had much choice for the first one and it was only a temporary home. We left France in May, which was the beginning of the tourist season : most of the houses were already rented for the summer. And it was impossible for us to come to Malta to go house hunting earlier. Therefore, October was finally time for us to find a new home that corresponded more to what we really wanted…
… and this house, we found it on the first day, and it has enough room to welcome our guests ! We are already looking forward to the summer to receive our friends and family.
We were slowly organizing and decorating our new home, before receiving my family-in-law for the holidays. And wouldn’t you know it, we are having one of the coldest and rainiest winter of Malta since ages… A way to reconnect with my native Brittany ! It even snowed this morning (well… this was a hail storm).
And I realise that 2014 has been one of the most beautiful years I’ve experienced, full of discoveries, adventures, future memories and emotions. I hope 2015 will be just as great, but I don’t really doubt about that, because I feel that this new year is going to be quite magical. I wish you the very best for the months to come, and a huge lot of happiness !
I have a special thought for all the people who made me happy this year, and I wish to thank all of you, my dear readers, because my blog has been a very important part of my life these past few months, and that wouldn’t be the case without you. And that’s only the beginning…
